Photos have arrived online suggesting that MSC has purchased the former Libyan cruise ship as MSC PREZIOSA. The ship is the same class as the soon to be launched MSC Divina and sister ships MSC Fantasia and MSC Splendida. STX will be happy to have a home for the ship upon completion, and the ship is expected to enter service early next year.
Well this is it, the facts have been laid out, Cunard is abandoning the coastal village of Southampton and graciously returning to their natural home of Liverpool. They have also announced a huge fleet development which will grow the Cunard fleet into 16 ships by the end of the week, utilising empty building slots at Fincanteri and STX. The first four huge ships will be named Caronia, Carmania, Carpathia and Saxonia. Playing on the traditional British values of the Cunard brand. I am of course joking, as nice as this would be it is only what local newspapers would have you believe.
Since we started blogging We have been covering the takeover of Windstar Cruises by Xanterra Parks & Resorts. Now Windstar has provided pictures of the stunning refurbishment planned for its smaller cruise yachts; Wind Star and Wind Spirit. These amazing cruise yachts are among my favourite cruise ships, with their sleek sails soaring into the sky these amazing refurbishment look set to keep them fresh & modern. Above you can see how the pool bar area transforms at night to create additional alfresco seating for sunset dining at Candles Grill. Personally I think this looks great, and creates a wonderful atmosphere More…

STX looks set to have a bumber Christmas and New Years if everything goes to plan! All Rivers Lead to the Ocean Viking River Cruises has ordered two ocean going cruise ships, with the option of a third from STX in France. This is great news for STX workers, who have faced an uncertain future with the yards struggling for work in the recession. The vessels will measure 230 x 26.5, carrying 888 passengers in 444 cabins with a complement of 444 crew members. This makes the ships slightly larger than the R-Class which Azamara and Oceania More…

Now in the United Kingdom this came as a bit of a shock, the fact American hadn’t been into bankruptcy like Delta and United made us believe it was financially viable like our own British Airways, or Air France KLM. However we may have been distracted by the near collapse of Thomas Cook Group PLC, who needed to restructure its finances.
DSME, Daweoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, has been trying for the past few years to make it ‘big’ in the cruise industry, DSME is one of the worlds largest shipbuilders but has not yet built a cruise ship, as the market appears to have been carved up by the European Yards, Meyer Werft, AKER (Now STX) and Fincanteri. Do prove to the industry that DSME has what it takes to build a world-class cruise ship they created the Cruisia concept, just like EOSEAS, it is not expected that this ship will be built, just that it will prove that the ship More…

We have reviewed a few books on this blog in the past, and these reviews have always proved popular, we have also discussed cruise lines that are no longer with us, including Premier Cruise Line, where this book is set. James Spencer, the author has been kind enough to share a short segment of the book, this gives us a great example of what it felt like on the first day of boarding as a crew member. His book is available as an ebook on Amazon for 86p! Cruiseline Confidential, Part 1 The Boy, The Fish More…
